TOUCHING

I saw this picture yesterday and this story instantly came to my addled little head. I know there is a longer tale there. There is the story of how they met and the childhood. We have her quest to solve mysteries and the reasons she never lost contact. The effects of the water curtain on them. The life of Martin and Chandra. All these things might be inside me and I might get my cute behind in gear and write it up one day. For now you get the caption version and I really hope you like it. It will show up bigger when you click on it. I do think I will add the text to the bottom though with the original picture.

Life had been rough for Marta growing up in the only African-American family in a very rural Southern town in North Carolina. She faced ridicule and mocking as she grew up. The despair would have crushed her spirit had it not been for one young man, Chad. When she moved into town and started the 1st Grade she was shunned and left alone. No one came near the strange girl except a small boy on crutches.

Chad was sickly. His body was deteriorating from within as his nervous system failed. Many thought he was a miracle living until graduation. Maybe he was, still, he didn’t get there alone. Marta was always by his side. Some people talked and even though they were the “freaks” they still were not to be a boyfriend and girlfriend because of the color of their skin. Marta was careful. She knew she had fallen in love with him, but Chad would not allow it to be given. He always felt that her tying herself to him would be wrong. He saw only his future death.

Marta went on to become a brilliant scientist and work for the government in a secret lab. When word came that Chad was soon to pass away she rushed to that small town and stood by her friend. His breathing was labored. Every movement was torture, still he smiled at her. She went down the hall and made a phone call.

The soldiers caused a big stir as they came and took Chad from the hospital. Marta rode with him to the facility hidden in the Rockies. There had been a discovery made about the water from an underground lake. The effect it had on organic material was almost magical. Marta had been one of many trying to figure out how it worked; now she just cared that it would work. The papers were signed. She and Chad knew that life would change, but because they would be human test subjects the government was willing to set them up with a new life together.

Only pure organic tissue could pass through the water curtain. Marta knew that they would be nude and she would need to carry Chad. Their skin was stark in contrast. As they passed under the water she felt the changes and instantly felt stronger as she carried Chad beside her. When she looked down a beautiful woman was beginning to gain long denied strength. Marta was suddenly aware of her new appendage beginning to harden.

Martin and Chandra were married a few months later
